Kings defeated Venky’s Warriors for the T-20 Tollywood trophy as the
Movie Artistes’ Association raised Rs 1.5 crore for themselves at LB
Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday night.
The association contributed Rs 18 lakh towards weavers development
fund, Rs 5 lakh for the education of children of poor actors and Rs 8
lakh towards city police welfare fund.After day-long matches between teams headed by Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, Chiranjeevi and Venkatesh, the actors gave away the associations' contributions to the Chief Minister K. Rosaiah who was at the stadium to watch the matches. The artistes competed with each other in introducing themselves to the CM.
Police had to be called in to control the huge crowds that turned up the witness the match. Police swung their lathis on several occasions and horse-mounted personnel were called in to bring the crowd outside the stadium to order. Lakhs of cricket lovers and film buffs watched the match live on Gemini TV, while a packed stadium cheered the artistes.
Earlier, the sudden downpour clamped a sheet of disappointment among the stars and everybody thought the match would cancelled. But, in the evening, the weather cleared, bringing smiles for one and all as the final match ensued amidst hoots and whistles.
The presence of ravishing heroines enlivened the mood in the stadium, with some of them being the brand ambassadors of each team. Nag's younger son Akhil remained a star attraction at the match, he scored the maximum number of fours, showing the prowess as if he were a professional cricketer, which is in reality.
