Those who have watched Raavan (or even its trailer) would agree that the high-cliff dive that Abhishek’s Beera takes from the lofty mountains to the gurgling water hundreds of feet below was a visual delight. But at the same time it was very risky and extremely dangerous and, in no situation, would a non-stuntman like Abhishek go ahead with it.
In that rocky terrain and gushing backwaters, one false move and death was guaranteed unless it is performed by a stuntman.
However, in the interviews leading up to the release of Raavan, Abhishek maintained that he, himself, had performed that dare devilry. But, MS Balram, a former national diving champion, claims that it was he who had performed the death-defying stunt.
Balram says, “I am not here to create any controversy or to attract publicity because personally, I am a big fan of the Bachchans. I just want Mani Ratnam Sir’s movie to do well. But, it is also true that I was paid for doing the stunt and I am proud that I could do it.”
Whereas Abhishek had stated, “I went ahead to do the dive scenes myself even though Mani Ratnam opposed it.”
Now, a few questions that have come up are: How do we expect Abhishek’s parents to permit him to do such a life-threatening stunt when they don’t even allow him to ride a bike? Why would his makers allow him to gamble with gravity? Besides, the jump was perfectly balanced and postured (something that only an expert stuntman could do at one take). Shall we accept thatAbhishek gave several re-takes to perfect that plunge?
Wonder what Abhishek has to say about all this
